Summary: A batch fails with 'Unable to set Service from ship via code' when the order has no usable Ship Via code and the service is set only in the Defaults. Click Override on the Service default so it is enforced.

Problem

You process a batch with a template that sets weight, service, and date, and every order fails with this message:

Unable to set Service from ship via code on order (), please select the service manually

Setting the service to None gives the same error.

Cause

The batch is trying to read the service from a Ship Via code on the order, but the order has no usable Ship Via value. When you set the service in the Defaults, you have to enforce that default with Override; without Override, the empty Ship Via can win and the service is never set.

How to check: If your Service is set in the Defaults but does not have Override turned on, that is the cause.

Fix

  1. Open the batch and go to the Defaults.
  2. Find the Service default (for example, Service = UPS Ground).
  3. Click the Override button next to the Service default so it is enforced no matter what the order data says.
  4. Turn on Override for every Default you set for the batch, so nothing in the order data overrides them.
  5. Reprocess the batch.

What you should see

The batch processes without the 'Unable to set Service from ship via code' error, and the shipments use the service from the Defaults.
