Summary: A batch can stay In Process and never rate or ship when a batch default is set incorrectly, such as a fixed Order Number in the batch defaults. Remove the incorrect default and re-run the batch.

Problem

A batch stays 'In Process' (also shown as 'In Progress') and never finishes rating or shipping. Removing errored records one by one does not free it, and there is no clear error; the batch just does not complete.

Cause

A batch default was set on the wrong field, or with a value that cannot apply to every record, for example a single fixed Order Number placed in the batch defaults (that value belongs in a different field, such as a PO number). With that default on, the records cannot rate, so the batch looks stuck In Process. Running the same records without the default rates them.

How to check: Open the batch Defaults and look for a default that hard-codes a single per-shipment value across the whole batch, such as a fixed Order Number.

Fix

  1. Open the Batch Defaults for the run that is stuck.
  2. Find any default that hard-codes a per-shipment value across the whole batch (such as a fixed Order Number).
  3. Clear that default, or move the value to the correct field.
  4. Re-run the batch without the incorrect default.
  5. Confirm the records rate and the batch moves out of In Process.

What you should see

The batch leaves 'In Process' and shows rated or shipped records. A test run of the same records without the default rates successfully.
