Summary

To ship an order with more than one box in a batch, use File Import with a Box N column. Put one row per box, repeat the same order number and shipping information on every row, and number the boxes 1, 2, 3. This is the supported way, because a batch that comes in from your host system cannot split one order into boxes with different sizes.

Before you start

You need the batch File Import template you use (or a new one), and the weight and dimensions for each box on the order.

Steps

  1. Open the batch File Import template you use, or create one.
  2. Add a column for Box N: choose the Package object on the left and the Box N field on the right, then save the template.
  3. In your import file, create one row for each box on the shipment.
  4. Repeat the same order number and all of the shipping information on every box row.
  5. Set Box N to 1 on the first box row, 2 on the second, and so on. The value means box N of M, and only the N is needed.
  6. Enter the weight and dimensions for each box on its own row.
  7. Import the file and run the batch.

What you should see

The order shows the right number of packages and prints one label per box, and each box uses the weight and dimensions from its own row. The box data is stored in the background, so it is not shown box by box on the website.

If something goes wrong

The order comes through as one box with the wrong weight and size: the Box N column is missing from the template, or the rows do not share the same order number. Check the template mapping and the order number on every row.

Orders come in from your host system and will not split into boxes: a batch that comes in from an integration cannot break one order into boxes with different sizes. Use the File Import path above for those orders.
