Problem

On a batch of USPS labels, the Return Address showed text you did not enter (for example an extension in a name or address field). You want to know where the Return Address comes from and how to change it.

Cause

The Return-to address pulls from the ship-from address, which pulls from the profile address. Anything stored on the profile address prints on the label unless a default overrides it.

How to check: Open the profile address and look for the unexpected value there.

Fix

  1. Know that any field you leave blank on a batch is filled from the profile address by design.
  2. To remove or change a value on the return address, set the matching Origin default (set it blank to remove the value) or update the profile address itself.
  3. If the extra text is an extension, move it into the phone number field on the profile address so it does not print in the address block.
  4. Run one test record and check the return address before you process the whole batch.

What you should see

A test label shows the Return Address you want, with no unexpected text. Fields left blank fall back to the profile address as expected.
