Summary

If you type the same items onto shipment after shipment, you can save them once in the Item Book and pick them instead. Import Items loads a whole spreadsheet of items at once, so you do not have to add them one at a time.

Before you start

  • A spreadsheet of the items you want to load. Build it from the import screen and the item template, so your columns line up with what Shipstore expects.

  • Know whether the first row of your file is a header row (column names) or your first real item.

Steps

  1. Click Books in the sidebar.

  2. Click the Item Book tab.

  3. Under Actions, click Import Items.

  4. Choose your spreadsheet.

  5. If the first row of your file is column names, tick the headers checkbox. If your file starts straight in on the first item, leave it clear.

  6. Match your columns to the Shipstore fields on the import screen.

  7. Run the import.

  8. Go back to the Item Book tab and check your items are listed.

What you should see

Your items appear in the Item Book. On a shipment you can pick a saved item instead of typing it, and the commodity line fills in from the saved record, including the details you need for international paperwork such as value, weight, and country of manufacture.

If something goes wrong

One junk item was created with your column names in it. The headers checkbox was left clear on a file that has a header row. Delete that record, tick the headers checkbox, and import again.

You are not sure how your columns map. Use the item template published with the help article on the Address Book and Item Book, or email support@shipstore.com with your file attached and ask which column goes where.

An item imported but a shipment still says a commodity detail is missing. The saved item is missing a field that the destination country needs. Open the item in the Item Book and fill in the missing detail.
