A Canada shipment billed to a third-party Non-Resident Importer (NRI) UPS account is rejected by UPS. Your Taxes and Terms are set correctly; the NRI account is not valid or not authorized by UPS and must be resolved with UPS.

Problem

A Canada shipment set to bill a third-party / Non-Resident Importer (NRI) UPS account fails. UPS returns "A single payment method is required" and that "the UPS account number that was provided as the payment method is missing or invalid". You have Taxes and Terms set to Third Party with the NRI UPS account. (An NRI is a company that imports into Canada without a physical presence there.)

Cause

UPS rejects the third-party / NRI account as the payment method when the account is not valid or not authorized by UPS for that role. Shipstore passes your Taxes and Terms choice and the third-party account to UPS; when UPS returns "A single payment method is required" or "missing or invalid", the problem is the account's validity or authorization at UPS, not the Shipstore setting. Canada imports need the importer or broker (NRI) set up and authorized with UPS before the account can be the bill-to.

Fix

  1. Confirm Taxes and Terms is set to Third Party on the profile or shipment.
  2. Enter the NRI UPS account number as the third-party bill-to account, with its bill-to address.
  3. Confirm the country and postal code match the UPS record for that NRI account.
  4. If UPS still returns "A single payment method is required" or "missing or invalid", have the account owner contact UPS to confirm the NRI account is active and authorized for third-party or import billing.
  5. Ask UPS to confirm the account is enabled for that destination and service. An account-authorization problem is fixed by the account owner with UPS, not in Shipstore.
  6. Reprocess the shipment after UPS confirms the account is valid.

What you should see

UPS confirms the NRI account is active and authorized, and the shipment rates and prints a label with the NRI account as the bill-to and no single-payment or missing-or-invalid error.
