Estes is not showing a rate in rate shop

Summary: Estes stops returning a rate when some line items have dimensions and others do not. Make dimensions the same across all items (add them to every item, or remove them from all), then run rate shop again.

Problem

Estes does not appear or does not return a rate in rate shop (the step that compares carrier prices for a shipment). The shipment has dimensions on some line items but not on others.

Cause

The Estes API treats dimensions as all-or-nothing across the items on a shipment. Dimensions are not required, but Estes will not accept a shipment that has dimensions on some items and not on others. When that happens, Estes returns no rate, which looks like "Estes is not coming up."

How to check: open the shipment and look at each line item. If at least one item has length, width, and height and at least one does not, that is the cause.

Fix

  1. Open the shipment and review every line item for dimensions.
  2. Either add dimensions to the items that are missing them so every item has dimensions, or remove dimensions from all items so none do.
  3. Run rate shop again. Estes should now return a rate.
  4. If Estes still does not appear after the dimensions are consistent, check that you are on the correct profile and that Estes is enabled on it, then email support@shipstore.com.

What you should see

With dimensions the same across all items, Estes returns a rate in rate shop. You can select the Estes rate and generate a BOL (Bill of Lading, the freight document that goes with the shipment).
