An LTL shipment (seen with Estes) can fail if you switch the Ship screen to LTL before you enter the package weight. After a site update, the All Services view can also show "Error weighing scale" or "Value cannot be null" and ask for a parcel weight, even on stations that never used a scale. Enter the weight while still in Parcel, or set a default weight. A fix has since been released.
Problem
You start an LTL shipment (for example, Estes) and switch the Ship screen from Parcel to LTL before entering the package weight. The shipment will not process and does not show in the logs. After a site update, the All Services view can show a weigh or scale error, even on orders and stations that never used a scale:
Error weighing scale
Value cannot be null.
Cause
Switching the Ship screen to LTL before the package details are filled in leaves the weight empty when the shipment is submitted, so it fails. A related cause is that the order can load as a parcel service (for example, UPS Ground) instead of switching to LTL on its own, so you switch to LTL at the wrong point. After a website update, the same empty-weight condition showed up in the All Services view as a scale or weigh error. A later update corrected how the weight and scale are handled.
Fix
- Load the shipment with the Ship screen set to Parcel.
- Enter the package details, including the weight, while you are still in Parcel.
- Switch the shipment to LTL and pick the LTL carrier and service.
- Process the shipment.
- If you want a weight to always be present, set a temporary default package weight (for example, 1 lb) on the station or profile, then remove it once the fix is in place.
- Make sure Shipstore is on the current release. On the current release you can enter the weight after switching to LTL, and the All Services scale error no longer happens. Remove any temporary default weight you added.
- If the All Services error keeps happening on the current release, email support@shipstore.com and include your company name and the station name.
What you should see
- The LTL shipment processes whether you enter the weight before or after switching to LTL, on the current release.
- The All Services view processes without "Error weighing scale" or "Value cannot be null".
- The shipment shows in the logs with the correct LTL carrier and service.
