Problem

A domestic FedEx Ground shipment with the Signature Option left at "Default Signature Option" is rejected by FedEx as an invalid signature option. The package has a high declared value (for example, $500 or more).

Cause

This is a FedEx rule. When the declared value is $500 or more, FedEx automatically requires a direct signature at delivery for FedEx Ground (to and within the U.S. and to Canada), even if release without a signature was requested. At that value, "Default Signature Option" is not a valid choice, so FedEx rejects the shipment.

Fix

  1. Open the shipment and find the Signature Option field.
  2. Change it from "Default Signature Option" to Direct Signature Required (or Adult Signature Required if an adult signature is needed).
  3. Process the shipment again.
