FedEx international error: Incoterms not implemented for FedEx

Summary: An international FedEx shipment fails with "Incoterms not implemented for FedEx" when no terms of sale is passed. Set the terms of sale on the shipment, check the FedEx service is on your profile, then reprocess.

Problem

You tried to process an international FedEx shipment (for example, US to Canada) and it failed with this error:

Incoterms not implemented for FedEx

The shipment can also fail if the FedEx international service is not on your shipping profile.

Cause

FedEx needs a terms of sale (incoterms, the rule that says who pays duties and taxes) on every international shipment. When that value is missing, FedEx rejects the shipment with this error. Two other things matter: the FedEx international service has to be on the shipping profile you use, and FedEx International Ground uses the same service as FedEx Ground (there is no separate International Ground service).

How to check: Open the shipment and look at the terms of sale field on the International Options tab. If it is blank, that is your cause.

Fix

  1. Open the shipment and go to the International Options tab.
  2. Set Terms of Sale to a valid option such as DDP, DDU, or DAP. This tells FedEx who pays duties and taxes.
  3. Check that the FedEx international service you want is on your shipping profile. If it is not, go to Admin > Profiles, open the profile, and add the FedEx service.
  4. If you are shipping Collect or third-party terms, check that the receiver's account number is valid for that billing option.
  5. Reprocess the shipment.
  6. If it still fails after you set a valid terms of sale, email support@shipstore.com and include your company name, the FedEx service you are using, and the destination country.

What you should see

The shipment processes with no "Incoterms not implemented for FedEx" error, and the commercial invoice shows the terms of sale you picked.
