FedEx parcel to a home address: use FedEx Home Delivery

Summary: FedEx Ground is for business addresses. When the ship-to is a home (residential) address, the service should be FedEx Home Delivery. Switch the service and reprocess the shipment.

Problem

A FedEx parcel to a home address errors and will not complete on FedEx Ground. The ship-to is flagged as residential.

Cause

FedEx Ground is the service for business (commercial) addresses. Home deliveries go on FedEx Home Delivery. When the ship-to is flagged residential but the service is FedEx Ground, FedEx rejects the shipment. Choosing FedEx Home Delivery matches the residential address.

How to check: Shipstore flags the address as residential during processing or address validation. If it is flagged residential and the service is FedEx Ground, that is the cause.

Fix

  1. Check whether the ship-to address is residential (Shipstore flags this during processing).
  2. Change the FedEx service to FedEx Home Delivery for that shipment.
  3. Reprocess the shipment. It should complete on FedEx Home Delivery.
  4. So you do not have to change it every time, consider a business rule that sets FedEx Home Delivery when the address is residential. If you want help building that rule, email support@shipstore.com.

What you should see

The residential shipment processes on FedEx Home Delivery, and the label shows FedEx Home Delivery for the home address.
