Summary: An Error value in a report's Tracking Status column means Shipstore could not get tracking from the carrier. It does not mean the shipment failed. Register the carrier account for tracking and turn on nightly tracking.
Problem
A shipment report shows this in the Tracking Status column for some orders:
Error
The shipments themselves went out fine. Turning the report's link option on or off does not change it.
Cause
The Tracking Status column is filled in by Shipstore's nightly tracking, which asks the carrier for the status of each shipment. If the carrier account is still on the carrier's older connection, or is not registered for the carrier's tracking service, nothing comes back and the column reads Error.
How to check: in the case behind this article the FedEx accounts were still on the older FedEx connection and were not registered for the FedEx tracking service, so only FedEx orders showed Error.
Fix
- Move each FedEx account in Shipstore to the newer FedEx REST connection.
- Sign in to the FedEx Developer Portal (developer.fedex.com) and register the account for the Tracking API project. FedEx gives you a Client ID and a Client Secret.
- Enter those tracking details on the FedEx carrier record in Shipstore.
- Turn on nightly tracking so Shipstore asks the carrier for status each night.
- If you cannot find where to enter the tracking details or turn nightly tracking on, email support@shipstore.com and say which carrier accounts need tracking turned on.
- Run the report again after the next night's tracking and check the Tracking Status column.
What you should see
The Tracking Status column shows real statuses instead of Error, and new shipments show tracking events in Shipment History.
