A UPS collect (bill-the-consignee) shipment to Canada can be rejected even when the account is correct. UPS may not accept the Bill Consignee by Account terms; changing Terms to Third Party with the same account on both the Shipment tab and the International tab lets the shipment process.

Problem

A collect (bill-the-consignee) UPS shipment to Canada returns a UPS billing error and will not process, even with Bill Consignee by Account selected and the account entered.

Cause

When you bill a third party or the consignee, the freight terms and the freight account must match between the Shipment tab and the International tab. In this case UPS rejected the Bill Consignee by Account terms; setting Terms to Third Party with a matching account on both tabs cleared it.

Fix

  1. Open the shipment's Shipment tab and International tab.
  2. Confirm the same account number and terms are set on both tabs.
  3. If UPS rejects Bill Consignee by Account, change the Terms to Third Party on both tabs.
  4. Reprocess the shipment.

What you should see

The shipment processes with matching Third Party terms on both tabs, and the label reflects third-party billing.
