Summary

When a new shipping location is being set up, your FedEx account can register and print a test label while the UPS account will not register at all. UPS is refusing the account because it is not eligible for the UPS login being used. Only UPS can change that, so this one goes back to your UPS representative.

Problem

You asked Shipstore to set up a new location. FedEx went in, and a test shipment printed. UPS did not. When Shipstore tried to register your UPS account against your UPS login, UPS turned it down and said the account is not eligible for that login.

The exact wording UPS shows varies, so check the message on your own UPS screen and keep it. In the case this article is based on, the only record of the refusal was a screenshot, so there is no single exact message to search for here.

Cause

UPS decides which UPS account numbers are allowed to be attached to which UPS logins. If UPS says your account is not eligible for the login being used, the registration stops at UPS and never reaches Shipstore. This is not a wrong password and not a Shipstore setting, so nothing inside Shipstore will change the answer.

How to check: if FedEx registered and printed a test label for the same new location but UPS did not, and the refusal talks about eligibility rather than a wrong username and password, this is the cause.

Fix

  1. Check that the UPS account number and the UPS login you are using belong to the same company. If they do not, use the login that owns the account.

  2. Contact your UPS representative. Ask why the UPS account is not eligible for that UPS login, and ask them either to make it eligible or to tell you which login the account is already eligible for.

  3. Save whatever UPS sends back, including any screen or message they give you.

  4. Email support@shipstore.com with the UPS confirmation, the UPS account number, and the location the account belongs to. Shipstore then adds the UPS account and turns on the UPS services for that location.

What you should see

Once UPS confirms the account is eligible, the UPS account registers, it can be applied to the new location, and a test shipment prints a UPS label billed to that account.

Note: in the case this article is based on, UPS had not yet answered when the ticket closed. The FedEx side was finished and tested. If UPS has not come back to you, the location can keep shipping FedEx in the meantime.
