A multi-box international USPS shipment sent through Endicia is rejected because Endicia does not support multi-box shipments. Ship each package on its own, or use the packing feature so items map to the right package.

Problem

A multi-package international USPS shipment (for example USPS Express to an APO address) fails. The message reads:

Total package weight must be equal to or greater than the sum of the item weights

The Endicia reply carries Rejection Status 1053.

Cause

Endicia does not support multi-box shipments, so Shipstore sends one request per package. On an international shipment with several items spread across several packages, Shipstore cannot tell which item belongs to which package unless the packing feature is used, so it sends only the first package's weight. That weight is less than the total of all the item weights, and USPS rejects it.

Fix

  1. Split the order and ship each package as its own single-package shipment, so each package's weight covers only its own items.
  2. Or use the packing feature to assign specific items to specific packages, so each package's weight matches the items in it.
  3. Re-rate and process. Each single-package shipment clears the weight check.

What you should see

Each package, shipped on its own, processes without the "Total package weight must be equal to or greater than the sum of the item weights" message.
