Summary

FedEx Multiweight (also written Multi-Weight) automatically gives you the cheaper of shipping several packages separately or together as one consolidated shipment. Shipstore applies it for you when a shipment qualifies, so there is nothing to turn on in Shipstore.

Before you start

  • The packages must go from one origin to one destination.
  • For FedEx Ground, your FedEx account representative must activate Multiweight on your FedEx account first.

Steps

  1. For expedited services (FedEx Overnight, 2-Day, Express Saver), ship the multiple packages to one destination as one shipment. FedEx applies Multiweight automatically once the total reaches 100 lb (200 lb for Express Saver). There is nothing to turn on in Shipstore.
  2. For FedEx Ground, contact your FedEx account representative and ask them to activate Multiweight on your FedEx account. After that, qualifying Ground shipments of 200 lb or more rate as Multiweight automatically.
  3. Make sure all the packages share one origin and one destination and meet the weight minimum for the service.
  4. Rate the shipment and check that the rate returned is the lower, consolidated price.

What you should see

The multi-package shipment comes back with one combined rate that is lower than adding up the separate package rates, and each package still gets its own tracking number under one master tracking number.
