Recommended Hardware



Printers

Currently, we only officially support Zebra printers for labels. At a minimum, your printer must support 203 DPI, and handle labels at last 4"x6" in size.

We have 2 models we recommend over others:
For desktop environments: Zebra ZD421 (Please make sure this is the 203 dpi Model you can do this by checking the last digit in your model number. See more.)
For industrial/high volume environments: Zebra ZT411


Scales

We normally prefer USB scales since they are the easiest to set up, but we also support Serial port-based connections if a USB option is not available.

Our primary recommendations are a scale from either Mettler Toledo or NCI/Weightronics.

The most common scale used with Shipstore is the Mettler Toledo BC-60.


Zebra printers made only for UPS or FedEx (not for Shipstore)

Shipstore supports Zebra-brand printers only, and standard Zebra models work with Shipstore. There is one exception: a few Zebra desktop printers are built and locked to a single carrier's shipping software, and they will not work with Shipstore. They work only with the carrier's own application - UPS WorldShip for the UPS models, or FedEx Ship Manager for the FedEx models. The carrier, not Zebra, provides the driver, firmware, and support for these units.

Made for UPS - work only with UPS WorldShip, not Shipstore. Zebra states these are "designed and sold exclusively for use with UPS Shipping Applications only":

  • ZP450 - a custom UPS printer.
  • ZP230 - a custom UPS printer.

Made for FedEx - work only with FedEx Ship Manager, not Shipstore. Zebra states these are "designed and sold exclusively for FedEx Shipping Applications only":

  • ZP505 and ZP506 - custom FedEx printers for parcel and post labels.

For Shipstore, use a standard Zebra model (for example, the ones recommended above), not one of these carrier-exclusive units. If you are not sure whether your Zebra printer is one of these, email support@shipstore.com and we will help you check.
