UPS Ground Saver: Third-Party and Consignee Billing Are Not Available
UPS Ground Saver does not support third-party billing or consignee (collect) billing. All Ground Saver shipments must be billed to the shipper’s own UPS account.
Why can’t I use third-party billing for UPS Ground Saver?
UPS explicitly excludes these billing options for Ground Saver by contract. From the UPS Ground Saver Terms and Conditions, Section 10 (Pricing):
“Bill Third Party and Bill Consignee (Collect Billing) options are not available.”
This is also confirmed in the UPS Ground Saver Features of Service document:
“Conveniently shown on UPS small package invoice (Third party and consignee billing not available).”
This is not a Shipstore platform limitation. It is a UPS policy that applies regardless of the shipping system used.
What billing options are available for UPS Ground Saver?
Only one billing option is available: charges are billed directly to the shipper’s UPS account and appear on the standard UPS small package invoice.
You cannot bill to:
- A third-party UPS account number
- The recipient (consignee billing / collect billing)
What if I need third-party billing on a UPS shipment?
If your workflow requires third-party or consignee billing, you will need to use a UPS service that supports it, such as UPS Ground or UPS Next Day Air. UPS Ground Saver is a contract-only economy service and is not designed for those billing arrangements.
Why is my Ground Saver shipment generating a billing error in Shipstore?
If you are attempting to create a UPS Ground Saver shipment with a Bill Third Party or Bill Consignee payment type selected, Shipstore will return an error because UPS rejects this combination at the API level.
To resolve: Switch the billing type to Bill Shipper and ensure the correct UPS account number is populated in your carrier settings.
