USPS accounts in Shipstore are metered. That means a USPS label is charged the moment the shipment finishes processing to Shipped, not when the carrier scans the package. You can void the shipment right away, but the carrier's refund for an unused label can take about two weeks.
How USPS charges work
This is normal billing, not an error.
- The charge happens when the shipment finishes processing to Shipped (when you press Ship and it completes).
- The charge does not wait for the carrier to scan the label.
- Voiding does not undo the charge right away. It asks the carrier for a refund on the unused label.
How to void a label and get the refund
- Open the shipment you want to void.
- Void the shipment in Shipstore as soon as it finishes processing. Shipstore sends the void to the carrier right away.
- Wait for the carrier's refund for the unused label. It usually posts within about two weeks.
Tip: to avoid charges for bad data, fix the batch or shipment before you process it, instead of processing and then voiding.
What you should see
- A voided USPS shipment shows as voided in Shipstore right away.
- The refund or credit for the unused label appears from the carrier within about two weeks.
