An order can fail to return a rate and show a Ship To address error when there is a hidden space after the postal code. This is common on international orders. Remove the extra space in the Ship To postal code and the order rates normally.
Problem
An order (often international, for example to Great Britain) will not rate. You get a Ship To address error, but the address looks correct on screen. The problem is a space after the postal code that you cannot see.
Cause
A hidden space, or other invisible character, after the postal code makes the address fail the carrier's check, so no rate comes back. The space is easy to miss because it does not show on screen.
How to check: click into the postal code field and press the End key or the right arrow. If the cursor moves past the last character, there is an extra space.
Fix
- Open the Ship To address on the order.
- Click into the postal code field and delete any space after the last character. If you are not sure, delete the postal code and type it again.
- Check the city, state or province, and country fields for extra spaces at the start or end too.
- Rate the shipment again.
What you should see
- The order returns a rate once the extra space is gone.
- The Ship To address passes with no address error.
