A Puerto Rico shipment will not process
Summary: A Puerto Rico shipment that errors on the electronic form or the postal code is fixed by setting the destination Country to PR (not US) and entering a 5-digit ZIP with no plus-4 extension.
Problem
A shipment to Puerto Rico fails when the electronic form (the electronic customs paperwork) is turned on. You may see a message that the sold-to country is not the same as the ship-to country, or a postal-code error even though the ZIP looks right.
Cause
For the electronic form to work, Puerto Rico must be set as its own country in Shipstore. When the Country is left as US, the country check and the postal-code check both fail. The electronic form for Puerto Rico expects the Country set to PR and a 5-digit postal code; a 9-digit ZIP (ZIP+4) is rejected.
Fix
- Open the order and set the destination Country to PR, not US. Do this for every Puerto Rico shipment.
- Enter the postal code as a 5-digit ZIP and remove the plus-4 extension.
- Check that the sold-to and ship-to country values match.
- Leave the use-electronic-form option turned on (it is on by default) and process the shipment.
- If the shipment was already partly built, reprocess it after you correct the Country and ZIP.
What you should see
With Country set to PR and a 5-digit ZIP, the shipment processes with the electronic form on, no country-mismatch or postal-code error appears, and the label and customs form generate.
