An international order can fail with "Postal code required" even when the ship-to address has a valid postal code. The missing postal code is on the Importer of Record or the duties-and-taxes bill-to address. Add it to that Address Book record and reprocess.

Problem

An international shipment will not process and returns:

Postal code required

You may also see it worded as "a postal code is required." The ship-to address already has a valid postal code, and the error still appears.

Cause

The message is about a postal code missing on an address other than the ship-to. On the order, the Importer of Record (IOR) and the duties-and-taxes bill-to address had no postal code. Those values come from the source Address Book record. Because the ship-to postal code was there, the missing IOR and bill-to postal code was the real trigger, which makes the message look misleading.

Fix

  1. Confirm the ship-to address has a postal code, so you know the message is misleading.
  2. Open the other address roles on the international order, especially the Importer of Record and the duties-and-taxes bill-to.
  3. Find the address role that is missing a postal code and trace it to its source Address Book record.
  4. Add or correct the postal code on that Address Book record so the order picks up the complete address.
  5. Reprocess the order.

What you should see

  • The international order processes with no "Postal code required" error.
  • The Importer of Record and duties-and-taxes bill-to addresses show a postal code on the order.
