Summary: Shipstore treats Puerto Rico as an international destination, so the international item details have to be filled in. Enter a commodity description for each item and process the order again.

Problem

An order to Puerto Rico will not process and you get this message:

Commodity description is required

The order looks like a normal domestic order otherwise.

Cause

Puerto Rico is a US territory, but customs treats a Puerto Rico shipment as international. International shipments need the item (commodity) details filled in, including a description of each item. When the description is blank, processing stops with Commodity description is required. Nothing is broken; the order is missing data.

Fix

  1. Open the Puerto Rico order and find the international item fields (International Options or Advanced Options, reached from the Edit control on the item or the shipment).
  2. Type a description of what each item is. Say what the item actually is, not just "goods" or "parts".
  3. Fill in the other required international fields for each item, such as country of origin, value, and quantity.
  4. Check that the destination Country is set to PR.
  5. Process the order again.

What you should see

The order prints a label and its customs paperwork, and the Commodity description is required message is gone.
