The carrier changes my address and charges a correction fee
Summary: When part of an address or ZIP changes during processing and you keep getting address-correction fees, the change is coming from the carrier's own address check, not from Shipstore. Compare the addresses and dispute the fee with the carrier.
Problem
Addresses that match your order and your records get changed during processing (part of the street address and the ZIP change), and the carrier charges repeated address-correction fees. You want to know whether Shipstore or the carrier is changing the address.
Cause
The change comes from the selected carrier's address validation, not from Shipstore. Carriers return their own "corrected" version of an address and can then bill an address-correction fee, even when their corrected value is what caused the difference. Shipstore sends the address you entered; the carrier's check is what rewrites it.
How to check: compare the address you entered, the address the carrier returned, and the address on the source order. If the change shows up only after the carrier's check, the carrier is the source.
Fix
- Compare the entered address, the carrier's returned address, and the source order to confirm the change happened at the carrier's step.
- Understand that the selected carrier is the source of both the corrected address and the correction fee, not Shipstore.
- Dispute address-correction charges you believe are wrong with the carrier, since the carrier supplied the corrected address.
- If you would rather have addresses checked against USPS instead of the carrier, email support@shipstore.com about adding that. It is custom work and is billable.
What you should see
The entered address matches the source order, and the difference appears only after the carrier's check. The correction fees trace back to the carrier's returned address.
