Summary: On a manual LTL BOL, clearing the Ship From contact and phone does not stick, because the system refills a blank field from the location's default origin. Enter a replacement value to override it, or use a business rule to force the fields blank.

Problem

You ship LTL from a different origin than the current location and clear the Ship From Contact and Phone before processing, but the BOL (Bill of Lading, the freight document) still shows the location's default contact (for example SHIPPING DEPT) and phone. Clearing them again does not hold; the values come back.

Cause

The system treats the location's main origin fields as defaults. A value you change to a new, non-blank value sticks, but if you blank a field, the system refills it from the location default. So a cleared Contact or Phone comes back from the default. This is how it works today.

Fix

  1. To change the value, type the Contact and Phone you want; a non-blank value overrides the default and stays on the BOL.
  2. To leave a field effectively empty, enter a neutral placeholder (for example zeros in the phone) instead of blanking it, since a blank field refills from the default.
  3. If a field must be truly blank for a defined case (for example all LTL at a location, or specific customers), email support@shipstore.com to request a business rule that blanks the Contact and Phone for those cases.

What you should see

After you enter a replacement Contact and Phone, the BOL shows your values, not the location default. With a business rule in place, the BOL shows the Contact and Phone blank on matching shipments.
