Summary
Opening the Edit User screen, or restricting a user to certain profiles, makes Shipstore load every profile so it can read and write that user's access. On a site with a lot of profiles that takes a while, and the browser may warn that the page is not responding. Wait for it to finish. To make it faster, remove profiles you no longer use.
Problem
You open a user to edit, or try to restrict a user to certain profiles, and the website hangs. The browser may show a message like this:
Page unresponsive
The Edit User screen is slow to appear or looks like it cannot finish. Editing the same user again hangs the same way. It happens in any browser.
Cause
Every time a user is edited, Shipstore loads all of the profile information so the access values can be read and saved correctly. On a site with a very large number of profiles that load is slow no matter what order the screen does things in. What looks like a freeze is the profile load finishing, not a failure.
How to check: leave the screen alone instead of closing it. If it opens after a wait, this is the cause.
Fix
- When the screen hangs or the browser warns that the page is not responding, wait instead of closing it. It finishes once every profile has been read.
- Make your change or set the profile restriction, then click Save.
- To make this faster from now on, go through the profile list and remove profiles you no longer need. Fewer profiles means a shorter load.
- If the screen never opens, even after a long wait, email support@shipstore.com and include the user name, the number of profiles on your site, and roughly how long you waited.
What you should see
The Edit User screen opens once the load finishes, and the profile restriction saves. After unused profiles are removed, the screen opens faster.
