A single business rule that lists several flat-rate boxes never fires, because rule criteria are combined with AND (all must be true at once). Build one parent rule for the service, plus a child rule for each box, each setting the markup to 0.

Problem

A markup business rule meant to remove the markup on FedEx One Rate flat-rate boxes does not fire when one rule lists several box types. Separately, the criteria dropdown in the rule builder sometimes does not appear.

Cause

Business rule criteria are combined with AND, so a single rule that lists several flat-rate boxes needs every one of those boxes to be true on the same shipment. A shipment that uses just one box never matches, so the rule never fires. The dropdown that does not appear is a browser display glitch in the rule builder, not a data problem.

Fix

  1. Create a parent rule whose only criterion is the FedEx service (the One Rate service you use).
  2. Add a child rule under it for each flat-rate box size, with that box as the single criterion and the action set to a 0 markup.
  3. Click Save, then test a shipment on each box size and confirm the markup is removed.
  4. If the criteria dropdown does not appear while you edit a rule, do a hard refresh of the site (hold Ctrl and press F5) and reopen the rule.

What you should see

A shipment on each flat-rate box size returns with no markup, and each child rule matches its own box size on its own.
