Summary: A newly installed station is missing the settings.json file the Merchant App reads to find your server. Ask Shipstore for the file, put it in the Merchant App install folder, and sign in again.

Problem

On a station you just installed, the Merchant App will not sign in. You get this message:

Exception Getting Person, Object Reference not set to an instance of an object

The same username and password work in the browser, and the other stations at your site are fine.

Cause

The Merchant App reads a file named settings.json from its install folder. That file tells it which server to talk to. On a new install the file can be missing, so the app cannot reach your server and shows Exception Getting Person.

How to check: if you can sign in through the browser on the same PC, the username and password are fine and the problem is that PC's setup.

Fix

  1. Email support@shipstore.com and ask for the settings.json file for your site. Say which station or PC it is for.
  2. Copy settings.json into the Merchant App install folder: C:\Program Files\Shipstore\Shipstore Merchant. Saving into Program Files usually needs an administrator, so your IT person may have to do this step.
  3. If several new stations show the same message, put the same file on each one.
  4. Close the Merchant App, open it again, and sign in.

What you should see

The Merchant App signs in with no Exception Getting Person message, and you can process a test shipment from the station.
