A rate shop that has another rate shop nested inside it fails on every line with "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Remove the nested rate shop and add the individual carrier services instead.
Problem
You rate a file with a rate shop (for example "Rateshop All") and every line returns:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object
The rate shop has a carrier rate shop (for example "UPS Rate Shop") added inside it, next to other services.
Cause
You cannot put a rate shop inside another rate shop. A carrier rate shop like "UPS Rate Shop" works on its own, but when it sits inside another rate shop the rating engine throws the object reference error on every line. This is not a box size problem. A real size problem gives a clear "max dimensions exceeded" style message instead.
How to check: Open the rate shop that is failing and look at the services inside it. If one of them is itself a rate shop (its name usually ends in "Rate Shop" or "Rateshop"), that is the cause.
Fix
- Go to the rate shop settings for the rate shop that is failing.
- Remove the nested carrier rate shop (for example "UPS Rate Shop") from the list.
- Add the individual services you want to compare instead (for example UPS Ground and UPS Next Day Air), next to the other individual services already in the rate shop.
- Save the rate shop and rate the file again.
What you should see
Every line rates with no object reference error, and each service you added returns a rate.
