Before you start

You need the scale's serial settings (baud rate, parity, word length or data bits, and stop bits) from the scale's display or its manual, and the COM port number Windows gave the adapter.

Steps

  1. On the scale, or in its manual, find the baud rate, parity, word length (also called data bits), and stop bits.
  2. In Windows, open Device Manager and look under Ports (COM & LPT) to see which COM port the USB-to-serial adapter is using.
  3. In the station's scale settings in Shipstore, choose that COM port.
  4. Type the port configuration as the four values separated by commas, in this order: baud rate, parity, word length, stop bits. Enter them exactly as the scale reports them.
  5. Save, then put a package on the scale and check that the weight shows in Shipstore.

What you should see

The weight from the scale fills in on its own when you put a package on it.

If something goes wrong

  • No weight ever appears. One of the four values does not match the scale. Check them on the scale again and re-enter them, and confirm you picked the right COM port.
  • The scale drops out, or reads only sometimes. Serial scales work but are less dependable than USB scales. A USB scale is the recommended choice for a new station.
  • You have more than one serial scale. Set each one up the same way, with its own COM port and its own four values.
  • You cannot find the station's scale settings. Email support@shipstore.com with the station name and the scale model.
