Summary
A shipment sometimes finishes with tracking in Shipping History but no printed label. This is usually a brief network drop. Reprint from Shipping History; if it keeps happening, check your local network. If you see "Exception creating ASN Label: A generic error occurred in GDI+" right after an update, your station is not linked to a label printer.
Problem
A processed shipment now and then produces no printed label. The shipment finishes and tracking shows in Shipping History, but nothing prints. It hits random shipments (about 1 in 20), on any station, usually with no error message. A reprint from Shipping History can also run without printing: it says it is reprinting, but the printer prompt never appears. Right after a Merchant App update, the same missing-label result can instead show this error:
Exception creating ASN Label: A generic error occurred in GDI+
Cause
The print handoff between the merchant service (the background service the Merchant App talks to) and your station was interrupted for that one shipment, usually by a brief drop on your local network. A short server error at the moment you processed can also drop the print job. Right after a Merchant App update, the same missing-label result can appear as "Exception creating ASN Label: A generic error occurred in GDI+" when the station is not linked to a label printer.
How to check: if the misses are random and spread across stations rather than all at once, a brief network drop is the likely cause. If the GDI+ error appears right after an update, the station is not linked to a printer.
Fix
- Reprint the label from Shipping History for the shipment that did not print.
- If the reprint does nothing (no printer prompt), fully log out of the Merchant App and Shipstore, log back in to the Merchant App first, then Shipstore, and reprint from Shipping History again.
- If the label still does not print, process the order again. A brief server error at process time can drop the original print job.
- Make sure your station is linked so the print goes to the label printer. Linking the station also clears the "Exception creating ASN Label: A generic error occurred in GDI+" error that can appear right after a Merchant App update.
- If it keeps happening, note the shipment, station, and time, and ask your IT to check the local network for brief drops during those times.
- If it still recurs, email support@shipstore.com with the affected shipment times, the station, and what you were doing, so support can review the station logs.
What you should see
The reprinted label prints from Shipping History, a shipment that failed silently prints after you log back in or reprocess, and after the station is linked the "Exception creating ASN Label: A generic error occurred in GDI+" error no longer appears. Over the next day, new shipments print on the first try.
